The name Streaks of Day is from Macbeth. We were playing around with different naming ideas, and Emma suggested Macbeth because it has a lot of language on the dark and light theme, one of Final Fantasy IV's strongest. Now, if there's anything Alex likes, it's quoting Macbeth unnecessarily, so editions were scoured and quotes discovered.
Act III, Scene II
Macb. Come seeling night,
Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day;
And with bloody and invisble hand
Cancel and tear to pieces that great bond
Which keeps me pale! Light thickens, and the crow
Makes wing to the rooky wood;
Good things of day begin to droop and drowse;
Whiles night's black agents do their preys do rouse.
Thou marvel'st at my words, but hold thee still;
Things bad begun make strong themselves by ill.
First Mur. The west yet glimmers with some streaks of day.
Final Fantasy IV is one of the darkest games in the series, with characters dissapearing on you left and right. There's a lot of horror and darkness is not just all around the characters, but inside them as well. It's also one of the hardest games in the series to beat, and perhaps this is why it feels like the party is up against very steep odds. But, of course, even as the real darkness, the one that lurks in the hearts of men, cannot ever be destroyed, the same can be said about the light.
And er, that's where the name comes from.
